The 75 Hard Challenge was created in 2019 by entrepreneur Andy Frisella, CEO of 1st Phorm. 75 Hard is not a fitness challenge, but a “transformative mental toughness program,” according to the program’s website.
For 75 consecutive days, 75 Hard participants must do the following every day:
Follow a diet. While it can be a diet of your choosing, the diet must be a structured eating plan with the goal of physical improvement. No alcohol or meals outside your chosen diet are allowed.
Complete two 45-minute workouts, one of which must be outdoors.
Take a progress picture.
Drink 1 gallon of water.
Read 10 pages of a book (audiobooks not included).
Research into behaviour change at Moroku shows that building strong habits, is way more important than goal setting for deliverying real change.
That said, short bursts, like 75 Hard, can often be really useful for kick starting those habits through a concentrated burst for embedding new habits and ingraining an understanding of their value. This is why goals and challenges work; Not because they deliver meaningful results, but because they establish an intelligence of the underlying habits they seek to inform us of.
These ideas can be applied to physical change, emotional change, financial change, intellectual or spiritual change and are embedded with the design of the Moroku Odyssey Player Maps; Embedding why, establishing habits and then supporting them with game mechanics.
