Moroku Labs | Startups built on banking rails that already work

A venture studio built on Odyssey

Startups built on banking rails that already work.

Moroku Labs gives founders the Odyssey platform, a design and engineering team that ships to bank standards, and the hard-won detail of building a global fintech out of Sydney. Founders reach market faster. Odyssey gains customers. The incentives point the same way, by design.

How we are paid

Cash, recurring platform revenue and equity

What we bring

Platform, design, engineering and go to market

Portfolio today

Three live ventures in wealth, payments and student finance

The model

Five things that decide whether a startup lives

Moroku Labs codifies what it takes to build a technology company in Australia and makes it available to founders alongside the platform. We work across all five, and we are honest about which one is hurting.

Thesis

Strategy

Sharpen the high level thesis and build a plan that actually reaches market.

Demand

Sales and marketing

Define the value proposition, the messaging and the targeting, then land the first wins that matter.

Build

Product

Design, build and operate the product your customers buy from you.

Runway

Money

Capital, revenue, costs and runway, in the right order at the right time.

Discipline

Execution

Getting things done. Staying focussed is a skill, and it is the one most often missing.

Current portfolio

Three ventures, three regulated markets

Each is a live business with paying customers, operating where trust is the product and the compliance burden keeps casual competitors out.

Wealth and superannuation Live

Scientiam

Evidence based investing for Australians who do not want to pick stocks. Scientiam offers low cost managed fund and ETF portfolios across growth and defensive allocations, available directly to investors or through their adviser, with education and content sitting alongside the portfolios rather than behind a paywall.

Why it fits. Portfolio construction is a solved problem. Moving an ordinary person from curiosity to a funded account, with identity and tax file number verified along the way, is an experience problem. That is Odyssey's home ground.

Business payments Live

Lessn

Every business pays suppliers, payroll and the ATO anyway. Lessn puts those payments on a credit card, even where the supplier does not accept cards, so the business earns rewards points and holds its cash longer. Money reaches the supplier the next business day, and payments reconcile straight back into Xero and MYOB.

Why it fits. A payments business is an operations business. Approvals, permissions, audit trails, settlement timing and reconciliation are exactly the plumbing Moroku builds for banks.

Mist

A regulated platform for international students. The Proof of Funds Account holds a student's verified living expenses in Australian dollars, in an account in their own name, then releases the money progressively once they arrive. Around it sit document verification, source of funds validation, fraud detection and serviceability assessment, so universities and government can see that declared funds are real and still there.

Why it fits. Identity, verification and a trust account with staged release. It is a banking product wearing an education badge, serving a sector that is one of the country's largest exports.
