Moroku Money Philosophy
Being great with money is tough — requiring discipline, habits, and systems. Financial fitness, not just financial access, is the opportunity.
"Digital banking's convenience revolution succeeded at access — and failed at money."
Speed, apps, and frictionless payments solved the access problem beautifully. But they left the underlying challenge untouched: money is genuinely hard to use well. The banks that get it are building financial fitness into the heart of their digital proposition. This requires a different posture.
The Intellectual Foundation of Every Mission
These principles guide how we build engaging financial experiences — and define the targets every Odyssey mission moves players toward.

Five Behaviours That Build Financial Fitness
The twelve principles collapse into five core habits — the behavioural targets Odyssey encourages, rewards, and sustains across every league.
Financial Fitness Codified — Time, Space, Momentum
From Universal Principles
to Personal Journeys
The twelve principles apply to everyone. The five habits are the targets for everyone. But the path to them is profoundly personal — shaped by psychology, history, and each person's relationship with money.
Standard digital banking breaks here. A single set of nudges applied to millions of customers with wildly different psychological relationships with money produces what we see everywhere: disengagement, abandonment, and a product that feels generic at best, patronising at worst.
"The principles are universal. The path to them must be personal. The Player Map is how Odyssey makes that possible at scale."
Built on three intellectual traditions
The Player Map fuses three distinct bodies of theory into a single finance-native, behaviourally-inferrable model. Each contributes something the others cannot.
How people engage inside game systems. The expanded 8-type model gives us the mechanics layer and the signals that enable archetype inference from app behaviour.
Engagement BehaviourUniversal patterns from the collective unconscious — Hero, Sage, Caregiver, Explorer, Magician, Ruler. The narrative identity layer: not what people do, but who they are.
Identity NarrativeEight unconscious money behaviour patterns from 20 years of financial advising with Jungian psychology. The first model to map archetypes to money decisions.
Money BehaviourEight financial identities.
Infinite blends.
No player is a single type. Every player holds a unique percentage blend across all eight dimensions — inferred from transactions and app behaviour, never from a survey. Select any archetype to explore.
A vector, not a category
Every player scores across all eight dimensions simultaneously, producing a unique blend that sums to 1.0 — and evolves continuously as their financial life changes.
From transactions to identity
No surveys. No self-reporting. Two signal streams, continuously refined, produce an increasingly precise picture of each player's archetype blend.
Four phases from first transaction to full personalisation
The moment a customer's first transaction feeds into Odyssey, inference begins. Spending patterns, transfer regularity, savings behaviour, and category distribution initialise the blend vector.
App engagement adds a second signal stream. Feature adoption, mission completion, notification responses, and session cadence refine the blend. Updated weekly.
The archetype blend stabilises. The game engine uses dominant and secondary archetypes to select missions, tune rewards, and calibrate communication tone.
Life events trigger recalibration. A Spark can become a Builder. Odyssey follows the journey — indefinitely. This is what makes the game never end.
Archetype-driven mission design
Each archetype generates a distinct directive — determining mission style, reward type, communication tone, and the nudge trigger when engagement drops.
Because the blend is dynamic and growth edges always exist, no player ever outgrows Odyssey. The engine grows with them — indefinitely. This has always been the mission.
Five things no other model does
The Player Map isn't a personality test that happens to mention money. It's a purpose-built inference model that serves both the player and the bank.
All eight archetypes are defined through money behaviour — built in a financial context from first principles, grounded in Moroku's philosophy and years of work with banks.
Unlike Myers-Briggs or any survey-based system, Player Map archetypes are inferred from transactions and app behaviour. No customer ever fills in a quiz.
The blend vector evolves. A Spark can become a Builder. Odyssey follows the journey — the Player Map is never locked in.
Every archetype has a growth edge. The game is designed to move players toward their full financial potential — drawing them forward, not just serving where they are.
The player gets a meaningful identity narrative. The bank gets a behavioural segmentation engine that drives genuine engagement and improves financial outcomes.
Because the blend is dynamic and growth edges always exist, no player ever outgrows Odyssey. The engine grows with them, indefinitely. This has always been the mission.
